Islamic Ruling on Inheritance of a Woman's Property
  • Question:

My wife passed away. She had some property in her name from her parents. We were husband, wife and son. From her parents’ family there is her mother, father and 4 sisters. Please advise regarding Islamic ruling on distribution and inheritance of a woman's property after her death.

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

    Thank you for your question.

It is advisable you take your case to a knowledgeable experienced local scholar since in inheritance matters there are a number of details that can change the rulings on each case and or scenario.

In general, based on the brief description you have provided, the husband of the deceased will be entitled to 25% of all assets left as inheritance. The son is entitled to 41.6%. Each one of the surviving parents is eligible for 16.6% of the inheritance. The 4 sisters are not entitled to any of the inheritance.

    And Allah knows best.
