Removing Hair and Acceptance of Prayers
  • Question:

Is it allowed and permissible to pray and are prayers accepted if we do not remove pubic and axilla hair for more than 40 days?

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

    Thank you for your question.

Ritual prayer is mandatory in all situations.

These are two separate matters, removing pubic hair and performing ritual prayers.

If one has not removed pubic hairs, this does not mean one should not be praying. However, when pubic hairs are not removed for up to 40 days, one will be deprived of some of the blessings connected to the prayers and also be considered sinful for not adhering to prophetic injunctions.

Anas (may Allāh be pleased with him) said, "We have been instructed [by the Messenger peace and blessings upon him] regarding the time frame of trimming the moustache, clipping nails, plucking the armpits and shaving the pubic hair of genitals. We are not to leave them for more than forty nights" (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)

    And Allah knows best.
