Sujood - Voluntary Ones after Obligatory Prayers
  • Question:

I usually make 2 voluntary sujoods at the conclusion of every prayer, just reciting astaghfar or “Subhanakallahumma rabbana wabihamdika allahumaghfirli” or make any special dua that I want to make. Is this wrong? I was also told that it is not permissible to make voluntary sujoods after Fajr and Asar prayers. Please advise.

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

    Thank you for your question.

Making voluntary prostrations at the conclusion of mandatory prayers and reciting prophetic statements and supplications is permissible.

Some jurists are of the view that optional prayers and prostrations are not to be performed during the three disliked times, after fajr prayer up to sunrise, during zawal (sun at its zenith) and after Asr up to sunset.

“There were three timings wherein the Messenger (peace and blessings upon him) forbade us from praying or burying our dead; when the sun begins to rise until it is fully up; when the sun is at its height until it passes the meridian; and when the sun begins to set until it is completely set. (Sahih Muslim)

    And Allah knows best.
