Marriage Between People of Different Lineage
  • Question:

In Islam there is any ruling that a Sheikh boy should not marry a Syed or Pathan girl? Our elders advise that if such a marriage took place, the boy's family would suffer. Please advise.

It should be noted that, in essence, it is permissible for a person of any linage or background to marry some one who may not be of the same status, tribe, culture or background.

Islam encourages faith, compatibility and good character as criterions of marriage. If these criteria are met, then the marriage will be valid even if it may be a syed marrying a non syed.

“When a person comes to you (proposing for your sister or daughter in marriage) and you are pleased with his religion and character, then marry (your daughter or sister) to him. If you do not do this, there will be corruption on earth and vast trials.” (Tirmidhi)

Sometimes cultural practices blind us from the true teachings of the pure religion.

    And Allah knows best.
