Adopted Children - Are they Mahram to their Adopted Parents
  • Question:

Are children adopted at birth Mahram for their adopted parents?

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

    Thank you for your question.

When an adopted child reaches puberty, all the islamic laws regarding hijab, gender-interaction and mahram apply. The now grown adopted child is considered a non Mahram to the adoptive parents unless the adopted child was breast fed by the adoptive mother.

    And Allah knows best.
