New Muslim - Raising Children from a Previous Non-Muslim Marriage
  • Question:

I am a new Muslim woman and I had children before I became Muslim and I am now engaged to be married to a Muslim man. Their father is still in their life, he is a non-Muslim, I want to know how I should go about this? A way he can still be able to see his children but respect my decision in raising them to be Muslim as well.

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

    Thank you for your question.

May Allah bless you and bring ease in your situation.

This matter is a parenting matter. Our advice is that both you and the father of the children have a discussion regarding the children’s religion. Come to a common agreement. In such matters, custody and agreements are vital. Let the father know that despite your interest in raising the children Muslim, you will ensure the children respect the religion of the father.

We pray for success and guidance for one and all.

    And Allah knows best.
