Prayer Timings in Hanafi and Shafi’ Madhabs
  • Question:

Is there a difference in prayer timings in the Hanafi and Shafi’ madhabs? Can one switch prayer timings for convenience in case of missing prayers?

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

    Thank you for your question.

There is a difference of prayer timings in the various schools of fiqh (jurisprudence) based on interpretation of source texts. Specifically relating to Dhuhr, ‘Asr and Esha timings.

Our advice is that one should adhere to a specific methodology and madhab. Simply switching opinions for mere convenience is not correct as this is following of desires not necessarily the religion and fiqh.

In dire circumstances or emergency situations, one may adopt the view of another fiqh or school. We advise to consult your local religious scholars in this matter.

    And Allah knows best.
