Wake for Fajr - After a long hard day of work
  • Question:

I work a long hard day and try to go to bed early so to wake for Fajr. I usually pray Isha 4 rakat farz prayer, 2 sunnat and 1 witr prayer where I recite my qunoot dua in the one rakaat. I want to know if it’s good.

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

    Thank you for your question.

May Allah bless you for your concern for prayer.

There are various methods of performing the witr prayer based on the various hadiths and their interpretations.

Jurists have usually preferred performing three or more raka’ats of witr.

Here below are mentioned the verdict of the four schools of jurisprudence regarding one rakah witr:

    • Hanafi: Witr is three rakaats. There is no concept of one rakah witr.
    • Shafie: One rakah witr is disliked but permissible.
    • Maliki and Hanbali: One rakah witr is acceptable but not preferred nor encouraged.

Ai’sha (ra) states, “… (after Tahajjud prayers), the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) would perform the prayer (witr) in three raka’ahs.” (Bukhari)

(See: Fiqh Ala Madhahib al Arba’ah and Al Fiqh Al Islamiy Wa Adillatuh)

    And Allah knows best.
