Imams that Use Surahs to Cure Non-Muslims with Payment - Can We Follow Them in Prayer?
  • Question:

There are some Imams who use our suras to cure non-Muslims of illness and they do it for money. Can we follow this Imam in Salaah?

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

    Thank you for your question.

The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) is reported to have stated, “Perform congregational prayer behind any Muslim sinner or pious individual” (Musnad Aḥmad)

Based on this report, a number of islamic scholars, deduce that it is permissible to perform congregational prayer behind any Muslim, even though they may be sinning in their personal lives.

There are reports that the Ṣaḥābah (Companions) may Allāh be pleased with them recited Qurānic verses to treat non Muslims. They were also gifted with valuables in exchange of their service, which the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him approved. (See Tirmidhī)

    And Allah knows best.
