Touching Digital Qur'anic Applications Without Wudu
  • Question:

I have the iQuran application in my touch-screen phone. Is it allowed to scroll through the verses without being in a state of Wudu? Also can the phone be kept in relatively unclean places when the application is closed?

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Thank you for your question. May Allah bless you tremendously for the positive use of technology.

No doubt, it is preferred and praiseworthy to touch the device with the digital Qur’anic application, while in the state of Wudu. This is an act of great respect the Qur’an deserves.

"If one observes the sanctity of the symbols of Allah, then such things emanate from the piety of the hearts.” (Qur'an 22:32)

However, since the application on the screen is simply a combination of light rays in the form of small pixels, it is permissible to touch such digital Qur'anic applications without wudu. It is also permissible to place the device at an undesired location such as the floor while the application has been turned off.

    And Allah knows best.
