What is the correct way to perform Wudu (with duas)?

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

    Thank you for your question.

Your interest in learning about religious matters is praiseworthy.

    Wudū’ — ritual ablution is instructed in the Qur’ān as follows;

“O you who believe, when you rise for salāh, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and wipe [a portion] of your heads [with a wet hand] and [wash] your feet up to the ankles.” (Qur’ān 5:6)

Mandatory steps of Wudū’ are as follows:

    1. Wash the entire face: vertically from the point where the hairline normally begins to the bottom of the chin, horizontally from earlobe to earlobe
    2. Wash the arms up to and including the elbows
    3. Wipe a quarter of the head with a moist hand
    4. Wash the feet up to and including the ankles

The Sunnah method of performing Wudū’ is as follows:

    • Make the intention: ‘I intend to make Wudū’ for the sake Allāh’
    • Recite ‘Bismillāh’ (in the name of Allāh)
    • Wash both hands including the wrists
    • Use the tooth-stick (miswāk) to brush the teeth
    • Rinse the mouth and nose by taking water with the right hand and cleaning out the nose with the left
    • If not fasting, rinse the mouth and nose thoroughly
    • Perform the actions of Wudū’ successively [which is to wash the next limb before the former dries]
    • Wash each limb thrice
    • Begin by washing the right [hands and feet]
    • Commence the washing from the tips of the fingers
    • Pass the wet fingers of one hand into the gaps between the fingers of the other hand [move or remove rings to make sure water reaches areas of the fingers]
    • Wipe the head from the front to the back and then from the back to front with a wet hand once
    • Wipe the ears with the leftover water on the hands from after wiping the head. Use the thumb on the outside of the ear and the index finger on the inside.

You may also recite the authentic Prophetic supplications while washing the limbs.
